19日目

 

 

大阪城から、難波へ行った。

大阪の最も大きな繁華街の一つ、一番覚えやすい感想は人が溢れていた。日本の商店街が普通混んでいるがそのところの人の多さは確かにレベルアップ。

歩き回ったり、店を見たりした。店に無関心だけど、すぐに有名なたこ焼きを食べた。

美味しかったけど、食べるとビールを飲んだ方がいい、きっと。

だって日本にビールと組み合わせないものがあるかな。

アンパンかも知れない。それまで想像できない。

 

要点に戻って、難波後で新世界へ行った。

日曜の初めの前行ったことがなかった場所。

そのとこで超疲れたけど驚いたことに新世界は最高だった！本当に予想外なところ。難波と同じ、繁華街と思われているが、感じは全然違う。

古い雰囲気で、80年代と思った。雀荘と串カツ店と派手な外観の店舗がたくさんある。

また意外に、自分の子供頃に好きなキン肉マンは今新世界100年誕生をお祝いするように広告で使わられている。

弟はロビンマスクの実物大の像を見たいと思う。

 

最後にお好み焼き店に行って、お腹すいて友達ととっても幸せな食事をした。皆、またありがとう！

 

 

 

Day 19

Following Osaka Castle, my friends and I went to one of Osaka’s biggest shopping/entertainment districts: Nanba. There were so many people. Japan usually has thick crowds, but this was on another level.

 

Walking around, we inspected the shops and alleys. I’m fairly indifferent to that kind of thing, but it wasn’t long before we stopped to eat some famous takoyaki (octopus dumplings). They were delicious, but definitely go best with beer.

Is there anything that doesn’t go better with beer in Japan, though?

Anpan probably. Can’t really imagine that one.

 

Back to the day’s account, our final destination was Shinsekai – the first place on Sunday I hadn’t been to before. By that point I was pretty tired, but was surprised to find Shinsekai was awesome! Very unexpected feeling to the place. It is an entertainment district like Nanba, but in many ways completely different. There’s an old-timey sense, with much of the zone resembling a 80s arcade game. Mahjong parlors, meat skewer joints and gaudy storefronts are everywhere.

 

As a further surprise, in celebrating Shinsekai’s 100^th Birthday, the Kinnikuman cartoon I’d loved as a kid was being used to promote the area. I know my brother would have wanted to see the life-size Robin Mask Statue.

 

Finally, the group went for okonomiyaki. It had been a terrific day, and it was great feeling to chow down with my new friends.
